Privacy Issues in the Workplace

After the session, you will have a better understanding of how privacy rights of employees affect the rights of an employer to regulate both business and non-business related activities.

Track: Employment Law & Legislation

The program would review the implications of privacy in the employment context. The program will cover the origins of privacy, how privacy was extended to employment, and how privacy affects both an employees right to privacy and the employers right to protect its interests. The program will examine a wide range of privacy issues, from an employers interest in regulating off hours conduct to reviewing e-mails sent from a private account on a company computer.
